A major discussion is going on in Columbia, SC as citizens there decide whether to change their form of government from council-manager to strong mayor. We’ve already posted a consolidated repository of information about the referendum on our blog. Now, we’ve taken our research a step further. For the proponents, we interviewed the state’s former Governor Jim Hodges. For those in opposition, we interviewed Howard Duvall, one of the spokespersons for Citizens for a Great Columbia. We had a great discussion with each, talking over comparison’s of Columbia with our other major Cities, asking about recall capabilities of a strong mayor, and discussing the situation with the Mayor in Toronto.
